Building TransFloat: subtitles that follow the audio

You are watching a video in another language. A sentence slips past, so you pause, switch to a translation tool, then come back and find your place. You have the meaning, but the flow is gone.

TransFloat starts with that small interruption: how can the original words and translation stay in view while the audio keeps playing?

Two languages, side by side

A translation alone can make it hard to connect what you hear with what you read. Bilingual subtitles keep the original words alongside the translation, so you can follow the meaning and compare the phrasing.

On iPhone, TransFloat can use the microphone to turn nearby speech into live bilingual subtitles. For a conversation, talk or lecture, start by choosing a source and target language.

Keep reading as you switch apps

The audio is often in another app. TransFloat Pro uses the iOS system broadcast to translate supported app audio, with floating Picture in Picture subtitles that stay visible as you switch apps.

There are clear limits: compatibility depends on the app and content, as well as supported languages and devices. This helps with supported audio; it does not mean every app can be translated.

Return to what you heard

Live subtitles help in the moment. Saved history lets you return later. TransFloat lets you review the subtitle timeline of saved tasks and export SRT or TXT. Pro also supports importing local audio files for translation.

The aim is to make a missed sentence less of an interruption. Noise, accents and overlapping speakers can still affect recognition and translation, so important details need to be checked against the original audio.
